IT’S finals time for the Veterans!

Frank Greenwood of Golcar Lib is the 2018 Over 80s Knockout champion after beating Derek Sykes of Marsden Park 21-18.

The two final rounds were completed at Kirkheaton C&BC with the two beaten semi-finalists being John Cocking of Hemplow and Mick Pejica of Netherton Con.

A good turn out saw three very competitive games before Frank deservedly took the trophy from competition sponsors Alan and Pat Stephenson.

Well done to Lindley Lib for an overwhelming 73-50 win in the Julie Fuller Trophy final.

Clayton West were runners-up for a second consecutive year.

Meanwhile, the Team Knockout Final will be contested between Waterloo and Broad Oak A. The Section 2 representatives from Broad Oak continued their giantkilling ways by adding a third Section 1 team scalp along their path to the final.

This time it was Milnsbridge A. They didn’t require their 15-point handicap advantage as they won by 40 points.

Waterloo did require their five-point semi-final handicap advantage to drop zone after Almondbury Lib revived their avoidance hopes with a 6-3 home win over Skel Windmill A. The bottom four teams in Section 1 all had away fixtures and, of those, only Golcar Lib managed a win.

That 6-3 victory at Meltham helped their cause but with matches still to play against the other three teams in the relegation mix before the end of the season, their safety is not guaranteed yet by any means.

The leading teams in Section A of the 6-Man League are getting the collie-wobbles with the top two both suffering heavy away defeats.

Leaders Crosland Moor lost 6-1 at Shepley but remain in the lead, although that advantage has been shrunk to just three points. creep past Marsh Utd A 125-121 and will play Broad Oak A in the final at Lindley BC on Thursday, September 6.

The two losing semifinalists are both involved in next week’s Bistro Knockout semi-finals, when they will be hoping for better outcomes.

The Sub-Team Knockout final will be between Brockholes B from Section 4 and Holmfirth A from Section
