CAN PIERS GET THIS KILLER TO CRACK? P

-

IERS MORGAN seems to have cemented his status as the go-to serial killer interviewer. Well, him and Sir Trevor McDonald. Between the two of them, they are working their way along America’s death row.

In this, another chilling instalment, Piers meets Bronx serial killer Alex Henriquez who, until now, has refused interviews since his conviction 28 years ago.

Henriquez, convicted of murdering two girls aged 10 and 14, and a 21-year-old woman in the Bronx, New York, is serving 75 years but maintains his innocence.

Pulling up a chair next to Henriquez, Piers meets a perfectly polite and eloquent man who even cries at one point – but is it a facade?

There was national outcry after 10-year-old Jessica Guzman was killed in 1990, prompting the NYPD to investigate the string of murders that had haunted the Bronx for two years.

Local, well-liked businessman Henriquez knew all three girls and became the prime suspect.

As Piers talks through the crimes, Henriquez has an answer for everything, while we also hear from an FBI agent, who discusses psychological clues to the killer.

Piers also interviews the devastated mother of victim Lisa Ann Rodriguez, 21, who still sleeps in her untouched bedroom.

There is tension as we wait to see if Henriquez will slip up in his interview or finally admit guilt. Piers says to him: “See, I have to decide, Alex, are you just a guy in prison now as an innocent man or am I looking at somebody who did do that?

“In which case you’re one of the worst people I’ve ever met in my life.”
