Examiner lands Fleet Street spot on new Monopoly board

-

It will also see traditional London streets like Mayfair and Park Lane handed over to Huddersfield’s leading landmarks such as Castle Hill and the John Smith’s Stadium.

And now we can reveal that Fleet Street will be taken over by The Examiner – and you will be able to buy us for 220 Monopoly dollars.

Huddersfield was granted its own Monopoly board after beating off competition from neighbouring town Halifax in a vote-off earlier this year.

Felix the Cat, Huddersfield railway station and Emley Moor Mast are also thought to have secured a spot on the board.

The makers of the game, Winning Moves UK, have also announced they are launching a competition to find a VIP guest for the launch event.

The winner will also receive the first ever copy of the new board.

Entrants need to send in a poem, essay, ditty or one-liner on ‘Why I love Huddersfield.’

Examiner editor Wayne Ankers said: “The board will feature all the iconic landmarks around Huddersfield so it is great news to have bagged the Fleet Street spot.

“We have covered all the significant events in the town for more than 150 years so it is only right that we are included.

“And the announcement coincided with the re-brand of our website and a redesign on the front page of the paper where we stated we will make more efforts to celebrate everything that is good in the town with the hashtag #WeLoveHudds.

“What better way to start that than with Monopoly?”

A spokesman for Winning Moves revealed that during the two-month vote off Halifax resorted to paid advertising in a bid to peg back an early Huddersfield lead.

They said three key factors helped Huddersfield win the competition though - having Yorkshire’s only Premier League club, the new Doctor Who and Felix.

They said Felix will have her own Community Chest space, the Tardis blue box will also feature and the four railway stations will have a travel theme.
