Tributes paid after death of Stephen

-

has been released pending further enquiries.

Mr Campbell was a well-known figure in Huddersfield town centre’s pubs and worked for several years as a popular kitchen assistant at Aden Court Care Home in Moldgreen.

His former colleagues at the home, manager Lisa Boyd and laundry assistant, Christine Donnelly, told of their shock.

Lisa, who last saw him at Easter, said: “He joined us here in June 2009 and he was the life and soul of the kitchen. He was a happy and funny and caring person and was just one of those uplifting people it is a pleasure to meet though it has to be said he didn’t mince his words.

“He is one of those rare people who is both lovely inside and out. The residents loved him and when he walked into a room you definitely knew he was there. His death has sent shockwaves around here. He didn’t deserve that.

“He was a social butterfly. It didn’t matter how long you had or had not seen him nothing ever changed.”

Christine, a friend and colleague of Stephen’s, said: “I met him over 10 years ago, we used to go round the town’s pubs together. We kept in touch by text and were always planning to catch up but sadly we never did and it is too late now.

“Everyone is heartbroken. All he wanted was to be loved. I think his body is being taken back to County Durham where I think he came from. He used to love going up there to see his family and I believe his sister (Catherine) is a police officer.

“He loved his cats and was very much against cruelty to animals.”

One of his neighbours in Skelmanthorpe said: “He was a very keen gardener and took great pride in keeping his garden looking good. He was a very nice, friendly guy who doted on his cats Cassie and Luna.”
