Hunting a first Premier League win of the campaign, Town led at the King Power Stadium through Mathias Jorgensen, only to be floored by strikes from Kelechi Iheanacho, James Maddison and the speedy Jamie Vardy.

The decisive second came just minutes after Laurent Depoitre recalled for a first league start of the season in place of Steve Mounie - missed a glorious oneon-one chance on the break to put Town ahead a second time.

Wagner made two changes to the starting line-up, with Erik Durm making his first Premier League start at right-back in place of Flo Hadergjonaj and Depoitre replacing Steve Mounie up front.

Jonathan Hogg returned from a three-match ban alongside former Leicester player Ben Hamer, while Danny Williams suffered a minor knee knock and wasn’t in the matchday 18.

Leicester included Jonny Evans for the suspended Wes Morgan and did not rest their England players, Jamie Vardy, Harry Maguire and former Town loan man Ben Chilwell.

Town got the perfect start and led after four minutes. Phil Billing provided a superb long throw which was flicked on by Depoitre and Mathias Jorgensen who scored for Denmark at the World Cup finals was there to sweep home his first goal for the club and only Town’s third of the campaign.

Leicester responded by moving the ball wide nicely, stretching Town, but Wagner’s side countered with promise. It was from a Town corner, however, that Leicester broke with speed to equalise on 18 minutes.

After Mooy had made an initial challenge, Durm gave the ball away and Leicester sent Iheanacho on the break, finishing low past Jonas Lossl with a left-foot drive.

The home side went close through Vardy on 24 minutes, volleying wide from an exquisite James Maddison free-kick, and Town needed to regather their composure at that stage as there were some worrying holes starting to appear for Leicester to exploit with their pace. Depoitre, linking well when he got the chance, went close for Town with a flicked header from Durm’s cross on 29 minutes, while Vardy tried his luck at the other end, but fired straight at Lossl from just outside the box. With Leicester building neatly, Town had to be on their guard at the back before half time and were happy to go in level. Maddison fired another low free-kick narrowly wide as Town made a careless start to the second half. Bits of sloppy play allowed Leicester to get a foothold and Town almost paid on 55 when Chilwell pounced on a stray pass from Mooy and sent Vardy clear, but Lossl made a
