goal we conceded was a present.

“The opposition didn’t have to invest enough to score against us.”

Confirming there were no injury problems during the game, Wagner added: “We haven’t used our clearcut chances either.

“We had very good and clear-cut chances, but we didn’t use them.

“So these were the mistakes in offence and defence and it’s very important everyone is very honest with himself.

“For me, it’s very clear the gap between ourselves and the opponents is not as big as it was maybe last season.

“This is clear and obvious, the talent is there, but on the other hand we have to say we can’t make mistakes like we have done in the Premier League if we like to get points out of it.”

Wagner added: “Performance wise, this was a good performance and we had individual performances which were very good - Phil Billing, Chris Lowe, Aaron Mooy, and I think the centre-backs have done a good job. “Depoitre, too, played well but he didn’t score.

“We have said this about our No9 more often because Steve Mounie has played well, but he didn’t score either.

“We have to convert our good performances into goals and into points, but it’s important we are honest that the team are playing to a decent level consistently and they have shown everything to the final whistle to try and get the result.”
