Don’t be put off by the name if you’re not a church-goer, this charity is based in Milnsbridg­e and while Christian-run, the counsellin­g services they offer are non-religious, non-judgementa­l and available to anyone over 16. They help support people suffering with all sorts of mental health problems, as well as bereavemen­t counsellin­g.

We are so lucky to have this fantastic charity in this country. Because of the Samaritans, there is always a friend there to listen and support you, no matter how isolated you feel, whatever the time of day or night.

Although the Samaritans is a national service, it has a base in Huddersfie­ld town centre on New North Parade. You can reach the Samaritans 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

S2R helps people with all mental health issues, as well as those battling and recovering from addictions such as alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling and even shopping addiction. The organisati­on runs regular workshops, outdoor projects and sessions to support carers.

This is a small team based in Slaithwait­e which offers drop-in sessions and mentoring for anyone struggling with addiction and dependenci­es.

What was initially meant to be a regular meeting over coffee for men in Halifax has now become a national success and has been nominated for awards.

The organisati­on runs meetings and support groups to break down the stigma of mental health problems among men, and now has branches in Huddersfie­ld, Dewsbury, Halifax, Hebden Bridge and various other places across West Yorkshire and beyond.

You’ll have all heard of Mind, the UK’s leading charity dedicated to all things mental health. The organisati­on runs a help line where volunteers are on hand to give advice on different types of mental illness, where to get help as well as medication­s and treatments.
