Big questions for Terriers against Spurs

-

HUDDERSFIELD Town take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League tomorrow.

The Terriers host Spurs at the John Smith’s Stadium still looking for their first win of the campaign, which could take them off the foot of the top-flight table.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are looking to break into the top four with victory in West Yorkshire, despite losing two of their last three league outings to Watford and Liverpool.

Here are some questions that Wagner’s message after the defeat to Leicester was clear: cut out the basic mistakes.

Town were punished three times by the Foxes last weekend after sloppy errors, handing Claude Puel’s men opportunities to put the game to bed.

The hosts took their chances, unlike Town, and comfortably claimed the points after Wagner’s men had thrown them away.

If the Terriers are as sloppy this weekend Spurs could hit them for double what Leicester did, so Town need to have learned from their mistakes and to have tightened up both in possession and without the ball.

Town should also have learned from the corresponding fixture last term, when Tottenham netted four after a handful of individual mistakes from the Town defence.

Most fans will be predicting a five-at-the-back system from Wagner and his side this weekend.

That leads to questions over the make up of the Town midfield, with Aaron Mooy and Philip Billing currently holding down the two spots in the heart of the side.

Wagner could continue with last week’s 5-4-1 formation, consisting of two central midfielders, but could also revert to the 5-3-2 system used at Stamford Bridge last term.

That could allow Danny Williams, Jonathan Hogg, Abdelhamid Sabiri or even Florent Hadergjonaj to join If it is the predicted five at the back for Wagner this weekend, there could be a spot up for grabs alongside Steve Mounie or Laurent Depoitre. The forwards are interchangeable for the head coach, but we have seen in previous outings that the boss is keen on playing a pacy partner alongside the big men in attack. Rajiv van La Parra provided the outlet against Chelsea last season, while Alex Pritchard has also been used as the foil for either Mounie or Depoitre in the past. Wagner may choose to commit just one man to the forward positions and pack the midfield, but who he selects as the bridge between midfield and attack will be crucial for Town’s counter-attacking this weekend.
