It was one of the theatre group’s leading actors, Lee Puttick, the assistant steward at the Holme Valley Masons, who suggested that they apply for the grant.

Lee said: “I’m absolutely delighted that the lodge have been able to support the theatre group. Turn Again Theatre have been performing for the people of Holmfirth since the 1980s and our sound equipment is probably just as old!

“Our actors and productions are highly acclaimed and it’s fabulous to receive this grant to enable our society to continue with its development by also enhancing our sound quality.”

This week’s production, The Secret Garden, is the time-old children’s classic by Frances Hodgson Burnett and tells the story of an orphan Mary Lenox who is left to explore a gothic mansion and discovers a mysterious walled garden that has been locked for over a decade.

With the help of a robin and a new friend she uncovers why the garden has been locked away, and how to bring it – and herself – back to life.

The show runs tonight and tomorrow from 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 and £6 and are available on the door.
