Lloyd starting in pole position to be the champion

HUDDERSFIELD’S Daniel Lloyd is all set for a season finale showdown as the inaugural TCR UK Championship reaches its climax at Donington Park this weekend.

Lloyd, 26, has enjoyed a phenomenal season in the #23 WestCoast Racing VW Golf GTI, marking his place in history as the series’ first race winner on its Silverstone debut in March, and amassing three pole positions, seven race wins and three podium finishes from the 12 race meetings this year.

The ABRACS-backed racer heads into the final two races of the season with a 31-point lead at the top of the Championship.

However, with a potential 91 points up for grabs, it’s still all to play for as the battle for the highly-coveted TCR UK crown goes down to the wire.

“This weekend is massive,” said Lloyd. “I feel confident we have the winning package heading to Donington Park.

“It’s a circuit that I know well, I’ve gone well there before and I think the set-up we have on the car will put us in good stead.

“We’ve had an incredible year in the TCR, the team have done an amazing job and it’s not over just yet.

“Our first task will be to secure pole position and then to fight forwards from there and maximise as many points as we can from the races. I’m really fired up for this and my eye is 100 per cent focused on the main prize!”

With the WestCoast Racing Team holding an unassailable lead in the Teams’ Championship standings and already named as provisional champions, Lloyd is determined to make it a clean sweep for the Swedish-based squad and claim the outright title on the historic Leicestershire track.

“I’ve had a brilliant year with the WestCoast Racing crew and the Bäckman’s,” Lloyd said. “I’m delighted we’ve already managed to secure the Teams’ Championship for them.

“It would be the best possible thank you to the team and also to my sponsors ABRACS, Mend-a-hose and Propack if we could lift the trophy and go down in history as the first winners of the TCR UK Championship.” LONGWOOD Harrier Tiger Steel has had a summer to remember on the track.

The Rastrick High School pupil, left, remained unbeaten in the sprints in the West Yorkshire League and claimed the West Yorkshire under-15 championship.

Having represented Longwood in the Premier Division in the Yorkshire Young Athletes League in the 100m, 200m, 300m, relay and a number of field events, he was chosen to represent the county in the Inter-Area match at Gateshead in the 100m and 200m, finishing second, and the 4X100m relay.

His times have continued to improve all season, with his personal best for 100m now 11.78secs and 23.76secs for the 200m, and he is ranked third in Yorkshire in the 200m, fifth in 300m and fifth in the 100m.

Tiger also claimed victory in the championships at Cleckheaton in the 100m and 200m metres, where he also took silver in the shot putt!

He came first in the 100m and 200m at the Douglas Bedford Memorial event in Wakefield.

And he claimed bronze in the Yorkshire County Championships in the 300m too.
