Bus gates indicative of what’s wrong with town

-

Absolutely heartbreaking to read especially when Christine says it should have been her that sadly died. No one should have died that day or been injured and I really hope that everyone involved gets justice. Nana Mouskouri, singer, Paul Simon, singer, Edwina Currie, author and former Tory MP Sammy Hagar, rock guitarist, Chris Carter, writer and TV producer Marie Osmond, singer and actress, Kelly Preston, actress, John Regis, former athlete, Ian Thorpe, Olympic swimmer THE most hated thing in Huddersfield are these awful ‘bus gates.’

If councillors took time to get to know what people really think, I’m sure they would be shocked.

Bus gates are ok in places like Birmingham, London and Glasgow but they are cities, but not in Huddersfield, or any other small town.

All they are doing is driving people away and making money for the council.

Another reason the town is so quiet are the high charges for parking, and this is why people go to the White Rose Centre, Meadowhall, or even as far away as the Trafford Centre in Manchester.

It’s FREE parking, but they are taking cash with them that could be spent in town.

Some places have free parking days, like Sunday or Wednesday, to generate footfall in the towns, but in Huddersfield if you are five minutes over the traffic wardens, or whatever they are called nowadays, slap a ticket on your window.

One answer is to increase the parking time to 90 minutes but no increase to the parking fee.

With all the shops standing empty in the town centre, is it any wonder Huddersfield is fast becoming a ghost town?

I know a lot of these empty shops belong to companies who have never been to Huddersfield, but with some negotiation with them something could be done to open these shops and use them.

The town is being decimated because of the lack of interest and investment by the powers that be.

I love Huddersfield, it’s a great place and I’m proud to represent the town at competitions in other towns. It’s just so sad that we are let down by those in charge. IS Huddersfield becoming a lawless town? Just like the Wild West when the sherriff was out of town, trouble brewed.

We have no sherriff but we are told officers on our streets will become fewer.

We hear about shocking crimes but after a while you just accept them as the norm for our town if nothing is done.

Policing at one time was a deterrent to crime, officers knew their areas and knew the villains also.

Is this what Huddersfield must accept, picking up the Examiner and reading about another crime making the headlines?

As it is business will suffer. Who wants to go to town when so many carry knives and will use them at any provocation?

Anybody can pick up a knife anywhere and it is as dangerous as a gun when used. No civilised society can accept the way it is.
