Radical solution to clean air in our town centre

Huddersfield, like most big towns and cities, is suffering from the same.

We have a ring road where thousands of vehicles a day are polluting the air we breathe.

Its time now something was done and not just sit back and say “well, that’s life”.

In fact it is not life, in a lot of cases it can mean death, or certainly a shortening of life.

We need the quality of air to improve for all those who come into the town centre shopping, who work in the town centre shops and offices, and for the tens of thousands of students who are studying here at the Huddersfield University.

My proposal is that air filtration units could be placed around the town centre streets and in the university grounds.

They would help to filter out carbon monoxide and extract the clean air. Ok, Ok, I can hear all the sceptics saying they would cost too much, who is going to pay for them, they would spoil the look of the town, etc, etc?

Well I am putting these challenges to The University of Huddersfield. You have brilliant research, design, and engineering departments.

What a fantastic project this would be for your students to work on.

Could these units work from solar energy?

Also, we have big businesses in and around Huddersfield, eg supermarkets, engineering companies, who all say they support green technology.

Well let them put their money where their mouth is. They could sponsor and partner the University of Huddersfield in designing these units.

I am sure they would be able to put some of their own advertising on them, so gaining the recognition they would deserve.

It would be a big project, and will not get rid off all the pollution. But if the air around these units is at least 25% cleaner then that is a good start. THE reactions to Jeremy Hunt’s comparison of EU with the Soviet Union are interesting.

Undoubtedly there are similarities between the two.

For example, the EU is ruled by an unelected cabal and while it doesn’t have an army it uses financial rather than military force to impose it’s will on vulnerable members such as Greece.

If the EU does establish the army to which it aspires who will be in command?

Will each of the twenty seven members have an equal share?

I doubt it. It will be controlled by one or a small number of the more powerful countries with a role equivalent to that of Russia in the old Soviet Union.
