It’s finally here! Huddersfield Monopoly is GO...

-

Huddersfield was voted to land its very own official game at the expense of Halifax following a huge public vote staged earlier this year.

According to Winning Moves UK, Huddersfield had three key factors which swung the vote its way.

“Firstly, the town has the only Premier League football club in Yorkshire and its enormous army of supporters got behind the vote, as did Dr Who fans with their new Time Lord from Huddersfield,” said a spokesman.

“And finally Felix the Railway Cat, with a social media following all over the world, roused support for her hometown.”

Mayor of Kirklees Clr Gwen Lowe, who attended the launch, said the board game has “immortalised” the town. “It is very exciting that Huddersfield is being immortalised in this famous board game. I am looking forward to playing this much-loved game with my family – although my son Joseph always wins – and spotting all the local details that have been built into it. “Huddersfield is a fantastic town with amazing people, places and character – and thoroughly deserves this recognition.”

The new board game can be purchased on the high street at the following outlets for £27.99:

Huddersfield Town shop at the John Smith’s Stadium and the Packhorse Centre; Ryman, 5 New Street, Huddersfield HD1 2AX; Toyland in the Piazza; Waterstones in Kingsgate; WH Smith in the Shambles; and The Works, 41-43 New Street, Huddersfield.
