NE of the biggest bands of the noughties is set to play a free gig at an intimate Huddersfield venue. Razorlight, who had hits with ‘America’ and ‘Golden Touch’, are booked to play at Vinyl Tap record store on Tuesday, October 30.

The gig will mark the launch of the band’s first new album for 10 years, entitled ‘Olympus Falling’.

Vinyl Tap are expecting a mass of Razorlight fans to try to cram in to their basement events space on John William Street – especially seeing as the show is free to enter and open to everyone.

The gig is scheduled to start at 7.30pm and last until around 8.45pm.

Lead singer Johnny Burrell and the rest of the band will be sticking around after to sign copies of their new album, which is available to buy in store.

The indie rock collective have not produced a new album since their 2008 effort, Slipway Fires. That was preceded by their debut album ‘Up All Night’ in 2004 and the self-titled ‘Razorlight’, which reached the UK number one slot in 2006 and included the band’s only UK number one single ‘America’.

In the last 10 years the band had gone their separate ways but now they are back with their fourth studio album, which has been released through Atlantic Culture Records.

Frontman Johnny has described ‘Olympus Falling’ as “a love letter to rock n’ roll” in an interview with NME.

He added: “When we were doing it in the noughties, the last thing any band wanted to do was be defined as ‘indie rock’ - you’d wince a little bit. Not just Razorlight, but every band.

“This time, it was about embracing English indie guitar pop. “That’s what I love about it.” The album is officially released today and Razorlight will follow it up with a UK tour in December. Twelve dates are currently lined up, including the O2 Academy in Leeds and the O2 Ritz in Manchester.
