Superfast broadband could be a step nearer

-

Bob Wilson, broadcaster and former footballer Henry Winkler, actor, Harry Juliet Stevenson, actress Diego Maradona, former footballer, Courtney Walsh, former cricketer, Vanessa White, singer MANY residents in semi-rural areas of Kirklees like Lepton, Fenay Bridge and Almondbury have had to watch near neighbours have the benefit of fast broadband.

There are a lot of unhappy people who depend on the internet, and who need to work at home, who suffer from the inability to download quickly and who have to cope with inadequate service.

This week councillors in Huddersfield were shown plans by City Fibre to build a fibre optic network around the town.

At the consultation the map for the intended areas of coverage were shown.

They are under contract to hook up areas that hitherto had no superfast broadband.

It is so pleasing after years of trying to get BT and Virgin Media to move and improve their networks and meeting a brick wall, to find a new mover in the market.

At last those who have campaigned for and championed their areas will receive their reward.

The contract, for Vodafone, at the moment, covers the old Huddersfield area plus Linthwaite and Slaithwaite which is good news as well for the Colne Valley.

I am sure this is one dig that a FOLLOWING all the arguments on the TV or in newspapers from Brexit or Remain campaigners makes me wonder.

If there was another ballot I HAVE just written the following letter to our foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt which I hope your readers will find of interest.

Britain cannot turn a blind eye to the brutal killing of a journalist especially when it was reportedly carried out by a government we have close connections with.

Those responsible for the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi must be held to account and Britain could help get to the truth by halting arms sales to Saudi Arabia and stop this barbarism from ever happening again, please act now.
