BULLDOGS PLAYER SHOULD BRING FLAIR, STRONG KICKING AND DOGGED DETERMINATION Frawley can be big hit with the Giants

-

HUDDERSFIELD Giants have made their first move in preparing for the 2019 season after announcing the signing of Australian half-back, Matt Frawley.

Frawley, who has spent the whole of his professional career at NRL side Canterbury Bulldogs, joins a Giants side who are possibly preparing for life without talisman Danny Brough, who looks set to rejoin Wakefield Trinity.

So, who is Matt Frawley and what can he bring to Giants in 2019 and beyond?

Firstly, Frawley has great experience of playing in the NRL and has grown up playing the game in an Australian way.

Frawley will inject Giants with a bit of Aussie flair and creativity, something that hasn’t been present in Huddersfield for a while.

Frawley also has a very strong kicking game.

His in-game kicks are one of his main strengths and this attribute will be vital in Giants’ aim to replace Brough on the field if he does go. Despite being a relative novice in the NRL, Frawley also knows what success feels like and leaves Australia with trophies in the bag.

Any experience of winning trophies will help a relatively inexperienced side, such as Giants, bring silverware back after a very barren period.

After debuting in 2017, Frawley became a solid player in a struggling Bulldogs side with a very promising start highlighting the individual ability of the Australian.

Frawley’s 2018 campaign was very stop-start, however, as he was dropped just two weeks into the season.

Yet, through sheer determination, he had fought his way back into the side by game-week 9 of the NRL.

This dogged determination to prove himself in the Bulldogs’ reserve side and to get himself back into the starting team is also one of Frawley’s great character traits.

Any player who has the basic desire of wanting to play rugby league at the highest level possible, and win trophies whilst doing so, is a fantastic asset for any side to have. Frawley has this in an abundance. When you couple this with his obvious raw ability, the same ability that saw him make 18 NRL appearances in his debut season, Frawley could become the unearthed gem that Giants have craved to carry the club forward.

Also, as Frawley is just 24, he should improve as he is exposed to regular first-team rugby and could become the main talisman for Huddersfield during Simon Woolford’s tenure.

Frawley also has the backing and support of the whole coaching staff, which could prove to be pivotal in helping him adapt to English conditions.

Frawley is an unknown quantity in the English game, but Super League is home to many Australians who have made the very same leap and been successful.

He has all the attributes required to join this group and be successful in Claret and Gold.
