SPORT MOUNIE: THIS ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH

-

STEVE Mounie says Huddersfield Town will emerge from their Premier League struggles stronger - but admits this is the toughest spell of his career.

The 24-year-old Benin international went on as a substitute for the final 27 minutes of the 3-0 defeat at Watford.

The man who played the first five matches before losing his starting shirt to Laurent Depoitre says this is the toughest spell of his career.

But he is backing David Wagner’s squad to pull through and defy the relegation odds this season.

After Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Watford, Town are still looking for their first win of the season. And asked about the importance of the upcoming home double header against Fulham and West Ham United, Mounie wasn’t shy in his response.

“They are big - together they are very big - and we need to get some points,” said the former Montpellier player.

“We haven’t won one game since the beginning of the season and now we are at the end of October.

“To be honest, it’s not good enough.”

He added: “If you want to get something in the Premier League you need to get points, and to get points you have to win.

“So we need the necessary commitment (level of performance) in every game.”

Is this the hardest it’s been since he arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium?

“I think in all my career,” answered the 6ft 3in frontman, who last scored in the 1-1 draw at Brighton last April.

“I never felt a season without a win to be honest, but when you come out from a situation like this you are stronger.

“I feel our team has the spirit to come out of this situation - and we will.”
