Mick Kay, CEO at Impact MAT, said he was “delighted” to welcome Mr Brook during what he described as “this exciting new chapter” of Castle Hall’s history.

He added: “Paul is values-driven and epitomises the academy’s and trust’s mission to improve life chances for children and young people.

“Huddersfie­ld-born and educated, he has an acute appreciati­on of the needs of the community we serve and has already impressed us with his insightful vision and plans for delivering a world-class education for our students.”

Mr Brook said that vision was to improve achievemen­t, develop character and raise aspiration­s for the students of Castle Hall.

“I will work relentless­ly to ensure that students and staff receive the support and care they need to become successful in our shared goals.”

Mr Kay offered his thanks to Mr Pugh for what he called “his selfless service” to the academy and the community during his tenure.

“He cares passionate­ly about the academy and I know that he will remain a supporter and close friend of the academy.

“We wish him all the best for the future.”
