Youngsters continue success in relay races
FOLLOWING on from their successful silver medal last month at the Northern Athletics Road Relay championships in Manchester, Longwood Harriers’ under-15 girls Neve Hardcastle, Roisin Mcgrath and Holly Brewster came an impressive fourth in the Northern Cross Country relay Championships at Graves Park, Sheffield.
The under-13s girls also raced, with Megan Hughes, Lucy Fairburn and Sophie Wood, coming 18th out of 40 teams.
Riley Lynch, from the Under-13 boys, was the only male running representing the club.
The West Yorkshire Cross Country league started with a huge turnout at Spenborough Athletics club, and Longwood had a great turnout.
The under-11 girls were represented by Jessica Crum, Holly Fairburn and Megan Stephenson who sit 12th in the league, while in the Under-11 boys George Scholes made a promising debut for the club.
The under-13 boys had a strong performance from Tom White, who finished 12th, while the Under-13 girls finishing sixth in the league with solid performances from Megan Hughes, Sophie Wood, Lucy Hardcastle and Lucy Fairburn.
The under-15 girls continued their dominance, with Neve Hardcastle coming second, closely followed by Holly Brewster in third and Roisin McGrath in 13th.
They lead the league table by a massive 14 points.
The under-15 boys showed promise and while unable to raise a team of three, Jack White finished in sixth and Sam Heaton, making his debut for the club, in 12th.
The senior ladies team were represented by Helen Roby and Lindsay Roberts and for the men Rob Limo, Donald Kennedy, Ian Mitchell, James Scholes and Josh Elderfield.
