Woman harassed her mum

-

When she refused she called her another five times and then attended at her address.

Ms Trueman said: “She said that the only reason she gives her the money is to make her go away.

“She said: ‘She often turns up during the night. I’m 78, I live alone and I’m not well.

“I’m conscious that when she calls me it wakes the neighbours up. Sometimes I stay awake in the living room in case she rings.

“Her constant ringing and turning up for money has left me feeling very stressed and I find it very difficult to settle in my own home.

“I’ve often sat in the living room crying. I’ve given her £2,000 which I was saving in case I wanted to move to another address.”

The victim said that her daughter wanted the money to buy food and alcohol and her behaviour had been constant.

O’Connor also admitted harassing a security guard when she attended at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on May 24 for treatment after drinking a lot of alcohol. She added that sometimes she would arrive at her home in a taxi, shout for money and keep the cab waiting until it was thrown to her.

She caused a nuisance and threatened the employee: ”If you touch me I’ll punch your face in.”

Ian Whiteley, mitigating, explained that his client’s downfall was drinking and the reason why she had fallen foul of previous court orders including Asbos.

He added: “She’s prone to having relapses but you can’t change somebody’s behaviour that’s been ongoing for 20 years.”

Magistrates sentenced O’Connor, of The Gills in Morley, Leeds, to a community order with six months of alcohol treatment.

They made a restraining order banning her from communicating with her mother or going to her address for a year.

O’Connor will also have to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.
