Calderdale’s free parking for Christmas

SHOPPERS will get free parking in Brighouse, Elland and Halifax in the run-up to Christmas.

Calderdale Council is making some free parking available in a number of car parks on Saturdays before Christmas.

There will also be free on-street parking in Halifax from 3pm every Thursday from November 29 up until Christmas, to support the late night shopping.

All other parking restrictio­ns on-street and in the car parks will remain in place during these times.

There will be free parking on Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas from Saturday, November 17, at Crosshills car park, High Street car park, Mulcture Hall Road car park and Victoria Street car park, all Halifax.

Then also on Saturdays in the run-up to Christmas from Saturday, December 8, free parking will also be at Parsonage Lane car park, Brighouse; at Garden Street car park, Hebden Bridge; at Tuel Lane car park, Sowerby Bridge; at Bramsche Square car park, Todmorden, and at Timber Street car park, Elland.

Shoppers are asked to note all car parks offering free parking will have notices displayed to remind customers that parking is free. Any car parks without a notice will be subject to normal restrictio­ns.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet member for Communitie­s and Neighbourh­ood services, Clr Susan Press, said the aim was to support local businesses and seasonal events.

“The Christmas season is always a wonderful time in Calderdale and it’s a great place to get your shopping all wrapped up.

“To support our wonderful local businesses and festive events, we’re offering free parking on Saturdays in the run up to Christmas, across the borough,” she said.

This week Calderdale Council announced that parking charges are to rise in some car parks including Bethel Street and Daisy Street in Brighouse.
