The morning after the night before he tweeted: “WINNER WINNER. Last night we only went and won New Business of the Year at the @ExaminerAwards! GO TEAM PAX! Congratulations to all of the other winners! Thank You for the lovely response on here.”
The Community Award, sponsored by SimplyBiz, was won by Huddersfield Mission. The Mission, which helps the homeless and vulnerable, is based in Huddersfield town centre – and staff were excited about meeting Harry Gration.
The Mission tweeted: “Examiner business awards community winner, still buzzing from excitement and Harry Gration says he coming to the Mission for a brew.”
Employee of the Year – sponsored by Pennine Business Partners – went to Kirsty Vickerman, a mental health practitioner at PROHMS Healthcare. She was described as one of the most hard-working and committed practitioners they had ever come across.
The Apprenticeship Award, sponsored by Syngenta, was won by Crowther & Shaw, where more than half of their engineers started out as apprentices.
Young Entrepreneur of the Year (sponsored by Kirklees College) was awarded to Mike Lomas, 27, of the Big Red Industries construction company.
Mike is another Harry Gration fan and tweeted a picture with him saying: “Chuffed to bits to win #YoungEntrepreneurOfTheYear at the @ExaminerAwards last night! Great to speak with @harrylooknorth @WeAreBigRed.”
The Innovation and Enterprise Award – sponsored by the University of Huddersfield – went to Donaldson’s Vets, established in Huddersfield a century ago. The practice now offers CT scanning and will open a new state-of-the-art veterinary hospital in Somerset Road, Almondbury, next year.
Donaldson’s was shortlisted in three categories, much to the delight of director Martin Paterson.
The company was shortlisted for Business of the Year and one of its receptionists at the Mirfield surgery, Elizabeth Radunovic, reached the final three of Employee of the Year.
Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (up to 20 employees) – sponsored by Vizulate Digital – went to The FM Company UK Ltd, a business which provides security and facilities services to other firms and is based in Aspley.
Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (21-50 employees) – sponsored by Kirklees Stadium Development Ltd – was presented to Honley-based furniture manufacturer Distinctive Chesterfields.
