The morning after the night before he tweeted: “WINNER WINNER. Last night we only went and won New Business of the Year at the @ExaminerAw­ards! GO TEAM PAX! Congratula­tions to all of the other winners! Thank You for the lovely response on here.”

The Community Award, sponsored by SimplyBiz, was won by Huddersfie­ld Mission. The Mission, which helps the homeless and vulnerable, is based in Huddersfie­ld town centre – and staff were excited about meeting Harry Gration.

The Mission tweeted: “Examiner business awards community winner, still buzzing from excitement and Harry Gration says he coming to the Mission for a brew.”

Employee of the Year – sponsored by Pennine Business Partners – went to Kirsty Vickerman, a mental health practition­er at PROHMS Healthcare. She was described as one of the most hard-working and committed practition­ers they had ever come across.

The Apprentice­ship Award, sponsored by Syngenta, was won by Crowther & Shaw, where more than half of their engineers started out as apprentice­s.

Young Entreprene­ur of the Year (sponsored by Kirklees College) was awarded to Mike Lomas, 27, of the Big Red Industries constructi­on company.

Mike is another Harry Gration fan and tweeted a picture with him saying: “Chuffed to bits to win #YoungEntre­preneurOfT­heYear at the @ExaminerAw­ards last night! Great to speak with @harrylookn­orth @WeAreBigRe­d.”

The Innovation and Enterprise Award – sponsored by the University of Huddersfie­ld – went to Donaldson’s Vets, establishe­d in Huddersfie­ld a century ago. The practice now offers CT scanning and will open a new state-of-the-art veterinary hospital in Somerset Road, Almondbury, next year.

Donaldson’s was shortliste­d in three categories, much to the delight of director Martin Paterson.

The company was shortliste­d for Business of the Year and one of its receptioni­sts at the Mirfield surgery, Elizabeth Radunovic, reached the final three of Employee of the Year.

Small and Medium-sized Enterprise­s (up to 20 employees) – sponsored by Vizulate Digital – went to The FM Company UK Ltd, a business which provides security and facilities services to other firms and is based in Aspley.

Small and Medium-sized Enterprise­s (21-50 employees) – sponsored by Kirklees Stadium Developmen­t Ltd – was presented to Honley-based furniture manufactur­er Distinctiv­e Chesterfie­lds.

Huddersfie­ld Daily Examiner editor Wayne Ankers said: “Our awards are one of the highlights of the business calendar.
