at the John Smith’s Stadium and helped Town clinch their first win of the season to lift them off the bottom of the table and kick-start their Premier League campaign.

The head coach was mightily impressed with Kongolo’s performance against the Cottagers and labelled the left-footer a ‘real warrior’ after he came straight back into the side following a long period out of action.

He said: “He is a warrior, a real warrior.

“This is what I loved from the first second we signed him last winter and why I was so keen on making him permanent. Once he puts the shirt on and steps on the grass he is a different character compared to what he is off it.

“He can help us. Because of him we are able to play different formations and both formations in a good defensive shape and good defensive mindset.

“When you imagine him playing his first game after his five weeks out, unfortunately because of his injury, it makes his performance even bigger.

“He very reliable, very strong in defending one against one and very calm on the ball as well, and he is a warrior.

“He likes to fight and he likes to win and he leaves everything on the grass.

“He is a typical left-footed warrior and I am very happy we have him back.”

On the defender’s availability for the weekend, the boss added: “He looked tired on Monday but that was obviously going to be the case after his injury upsets, but he looks fresh enough to start again tomorrow if he is healthy after training this afternoon.”

Meanwhile, Wagner has urged Town fans to up their level of supporter even further today. The boss praised the Terriers faithful for the part they played in Monday night’s

win. But he believes the side will need more today. ”Since I have arrived they have always played their part and on Monday they confirmed it on the highest level,” he said. “Unfortunately this counts for them like us – it will not be enough for Saturday. “They have to come to another level because this possibility of back-to-back wins is so great that we should not forget to clap your hands and support your team every single second on Saturday. “The importance of it is so big that we like to really create this atmosphere and hopefully the players can take this and perform.”
