THE VERDICT: TOWN 1 WEST HAM 1 Terriers pay penalty for another lot of bad luck UNHAPPY WAGNER SAYS REFEREE GOT IT WRONG AS TOWN DENIED ‘CLEAR’ SPOT-KICK AGAINST HAMMERS

-

HUDDERSFIELD Town boss David Wagner believes the Terriers should have had a penalty against West Ham.

The head coach was adamant referee Chris Kavanagh should have given his side a spot-kick in the first half of Saturday’s clash with the Hammers when Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen was clipped in the box by Pedro Obiang as he tried to meet an Aaron Mooy corner.

The officials waved away the protests to deny the Terriers a first penalty of the 2018/19 campaign, much to Wagner’s dismay.

After the match, the boss said: “Obviously there is a little bit of frustration because I think, especially because of the first half, we deserved to win.

“We were very good and we looked very solid apart from in this one situation where [Marko] Arnautovic went oneon-one against [Jonas] Lossl where he made a great save.

“But we were the team who created the bigger opportunities.

“We scored a wonderful goal, Steve Mounie had a one-againstone HUDDERSFIELD Town defender Chris Lowe suffered a shoulder injury in the 1-1 draw with West Ham United.

The left-back was stretchered off the field in the first half after a collision with Fabian Balbuena left him in clutching his right arm.

And Town head coach David Wagner has confirmed the 29-year-old suffered shoulder ligament damage during the against their goalkeeper as well, we hit the inside of the post, hit the bar, had this penalty incident from Zanka where I have seen the footage and I have to say after this corner, from my point of view, it was a clear penalty, even if the opponent hasn’t done it on purpose.

“So we had anything but luck home match, with the former Kaiserslautern captain taken to hospital with the injury.

After the stalemate, Wagner said: “These are situations which nobody likes to have, but this is no one’s fault – even if I think it was a foul.

“Even in this situation we did not get a foul.

“He has a shoulder injury which looks serious. It’s a shoulder ligament injury. again in the first half, which only means we will work more and harder to turn this luck, which we have not had in the first 12 games.

“What it means is that it makes it even more difficult to score goals and win games.

“In the second half, West Ham had a few more chances as well,

“He is in the hospital at the minute and we have to wait to see how serious it will be, but he will be out for a few weeks.

“This isn’t nice for all of us, but especially for him as he was in great form and has been so reliable and so good since the beginning of the season.

“But now it is all about supporting him as well as we can so he comes back as quick and as strong as possible.” even if in the last five minutes it was only us who wanted to win the game.

“We had some further dangerous situations in the box without the final touch so, in general, it was a very good performance from my boys: we created opportunities offensively and were solid defensively.
