Dad tells of terror as shots were fired
on Peridot Fold, a cul-de-sac near Red Doles Road.
He says the gunmen “pounced” when the pizza man arrived.
“I opened the door for the pizza guy when I saw a young lad approaching the end of my drive.
“He took a shot which hit the door window. He came closer but I think his pistol must have jammed. Then another male appeared who fired two shots.
“I shut the door and then I think they have then hit the door with an axe. The pizza man (a man in his 50s) was in shock.”
The victim, who has lived in Huddersfield all his life, condemned the gunmen for their reckless violence at a family home.
“Huddersfield is a nice place but people go around spoiling it and making other people’s lives a misery. These people’s aim is to terrify someone; they are no better than the terrorist. Lately in Huddersfield so much has been going on. It’s ridiculous.”
He urged the culprits to reflect on what they have done.
“It’s not a nice incident when you have kids. I want to make these crooks aware that there were kids in the house. They need to think.”
Detective Inspector Mark Atkinson, of the Firearms Prevent Team, said that, thankfully, no-one had been hurt.
He said specialist detectives were investigating the incident.
Residents of Peridot Fold have also spoken of their shock.
One woman, 56, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s disturbing really. Police have not told us anything.
“I don’t know how this has started. I have been here 13 years and there haven’t been any problems.”
She added: “This is normally a really nice area with no problems at all.”
Police said there would be an increased policing presence in the area over the next few days to offer reassurance to local residents.
