An argument, deja vu, and a bit of banter

-

WAYNE Rooney hopes his England farewell could be repeated in the future for the likes of current captain Harry Kane.

Rooney will win his 120th and final cap tomorrow as a substitute against the United States at Wembley, a move that has sparked widespread debate since it was announced.

England’s record goalscorer said: “Obviously we haven’t done anything like this before.

“This is the first time and I hope that in 10 or 15 years time we’re sat here for someone, say Harry Kane, who could possibly go on and get the goalscoring record and it’ll be something which will happen again.

“Of course it’s something different and I’m not asking people to agree with it.

“I think what is important, as well as that the game is going to go ahead and that I’m going to take part, is that there will be money raised for the children as well in the Wayne Rooney Foundation which is important to me.”

Rooney said talks with the Football Association about one last match have been ongoing for some time and that he turned down the chance to play his farewell game before this summer’s World Cup.

“We were speaking probably for about 12 months about different ideas and there was an opportunity to do the game before the World Cup which I didn’t feel was right, I think it wasn’t the right time to do that,” Rooney said.

“We both felt it was the right time to do it (now), my season in the States is over, and it’s against the USA and it’s a friendly match before the lads play against Croatia on Sunday. We all felt it was the right time and the right game.”

The DC United forward has scored 53 goals in 119 appearances for England. HUDDERSFIELD Town were denied a second Premier League victory of the season against West Ham United on Saturday.

Alex Pritchard’s early goal put the Terriers in front at the John Smith’s Stadium, but a Felipe Anderson equaliser 16 minutes from time salvaged a point for the visitors and kept Town in the Premier League relegation zone.

Not all the action was on the pitch in West Yorkshire this weekend, however.

Here are some moments you may have missed at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday. ONE more fiery piece of action you may have missed was Andrew Hughes’ altercation with Marko Arnautovic.

The Austrian forward ventured over to the sidelines as Chris Lowe received treatment for his shoulder injury in order to take on fluids in the first half.

But Arnautovic also began gesturing to the Town bench, simulating the fouls he thought he had been receiving throughout the first half.

Hughes took exception to this and responded to the striker, who had to be dragged away by team mate Aaron Cresswell. Benin international on to the bar in last season’s goalless draw against Swansea City.

So that’s now twice Fabianski has denied the striker a goal and Town an extra two points. THE Town fans were once again exceptional at the John Smith’s Stadium, creating a cauldron of noise in which their players flourished in the first half. The West Ham fans were drowned out by the home support for large portions of the match, with only one Hammers chant audible from the press box throughout the 90 minutes. That chant was I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles, which lasted around 10 seconds before Smile Awhile was belted out over the top of it. Following the passionate rendition, the Town fans went on to serenade the visiting supporters, suggesting one, rather rude place in which they could put their bubbles.
