‘Move on noisy traveller group’

-

they leave their dogs tied to the fence, which is only 5ft from my house. They never stop barking.

“Apart from the noise they are not being anti-social. They are just right bang outside my house.

“I know they have to go somewhere but when they’re so close to a residential area it makes you feel uneasy.

“I know we’re making a judgement but that’s the reputation that they have. All my neighbours feel the same. We would like them gone.”

The travellers arrived last week after being moved from Springwood car park opposite Huddersfield Leisure Centre.

They were served with an eviction order by Kirklees Council, which applied to the County Court for the judgement.

Yesterday the authority confirmed that it had applied for a further order as the land occupied by the travellers, behind engineers David Brown Santasalo at Nabcroft Lane, is council-owned.

A council spokesman said: “The court hearing for possession of the above has been arranged for Wednesday November 21 at 1.45pm at Huddersfield County Court.”

He added that the timescale for the travellers to vacate the site “will be on the order from court.”

Kirklees has experienced numerous incidents of shortterm encampments as nomadic communities previously set up in retail parks, business parks, and on council-run parks, playing fields and open spaces.

Last week travellers left Springwood days before the eviction deadline expired.
