Children’s hospice in call for new volunteers

-

volunteers to help raise the £4m the charity needs to raise each year.

The hospice cares for more than 500 children with life-shortening conditions and their families across West Yorkshire.

From clinical care, respite, support groups, counselling, playgroups for siblings and bereavement support, Forget Me Not is there for any family confronted with the news that their child has a life-shortening condition.

Gina Fielding, a member of the Friends of Forget Me Not Supporter Group, said: “I feel like one of the lucky ones – my children and grandchildren are fine. But there are many families that aren’t so lucky and for them, the support that Forget Me Not provides is absolutely vital.

“Even something as simple as giving an exhausted parent some time to themselves, perhaps just so they can have a bath, can make the world of difference.”

Jess Lees, regional fundraiser for Huddersfield, said: “We can’t do what we do without our supporters and volunteers who raise vital funds so that children and families get the care they need, whenever and wherever they need it.

“So whether you’ve got some time on your hands you want to put to good use, want to help out at one of our events or you’re part of a group or club that wants to put on its own fundraising event we’d love you to join us for a mince pie and a sherry to discover more about how you could do just that.”

The hospice, whose patron is HRH Princess Beatrice, receives just three per cent of its funding from the Government. The information evening is being held at Phoenix Squash and Fitness Club in Honley on December 5, from 6pm-8pm. The postcode is HD9 6PA.
