Noisy neighbour fined after ignoring warnings

-

the authority initially received complaints about loud music, raised voices and banging coming from Sherman’s property in Mayfield Avenue.

In June he was written to but failed to respond and the noise continued with further complaints coming from his neighbour.

On June 26 he was served with a noise abatement notice but the problems persisted, Mr Hanif said. Two days later the council was told that raised voices, singing and shouting could be heard from Sherman’s property.

Then on July 4 officers attended at 11.30pm and witnessed singing, shouting and laughing.

The next evening they heard the same type of noise again and on July 23 they could hear Sherman while they were still stood in the street.

Mr Hanif said: “From the (neighbour’s) living room they could hear singing and shouting above the sound of normal conversation.

“They then moved outside and saw Sherman kicking his recycling boxes around and shouting: ‘Life’s a beach’ very loudly.

“It’s noise nuisance that is preventing the complainant from a reasonable enjoyment of his property,”

Sherman attended at the Huddersfield court briefly but left for a job interview and gave permission for the case to be dealt with in his absence.

Magistrates fined him £200 and ordered him to pay £350 prosecution costs plus £30 victim surcharge.
