Couple in court overNews the death of tot Riley

THIS is Kyle Campbell who is accused of murdering three-year-old Riley Siswick.

Campbell, 26, appeared at Leeds Crown Court yesterday charged with the murder of the little boy on February 6, 2016.

He appeared at the same hearing as Kayleigh Siswick for a brief hearing in connection with the alleged murder of Siswick’s three-year-old son Riley.

The toddler was found dead at his home address in Smiths Avenue in Marsh and a court previously heard that he had suffered blunt force trauma.

Campbell has been charged with murder and causing or allowing the death of a child, as well as two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on another child.

Siswick, also 26, has been charged with causing or allowing the death of a child.

The couple, both of Heys View in Huddersfield, spoke only to confirm their names, dates of birth and nationalities.

They have not formally entered any pleas at this stage.

Siswick indicated a not guilty plea on Wednesday at Leeds Magistrates’ Court.

They are expected to formally enter pleas at a plea and trial preparation hearing on December 20.

A trial date was provisionally listed for May 20 next year and the court heard it would be expected to last six weeks.

Campbell’s barrister Anastasis Tasou made an application for bail on behalf of his client, but it was rejected by the Recorder of Leeds, Judge Guy Kearl QC.

He was returned to custody.

Siswick was released on conditional bail again, this time with the condition to live and sleep at a new address that was not read out in open court.

The other bail conditions include not to directly or indirectly contact her co-accused or members of a family who were named in court.

Campbell was first arrested in connection with the case in April 2017 and Siswick was interviewed five times over a period of twoand-a-half years in connection with the death of her son.

The court heard the charges came as a shock to the couple.
