Big chance to get points on the board

-

TOWN have suffered a stuttering start to their second season in the Premier League.

Twelve matches in and the Terriers are languishing in 19th position in the top flight, sitting two points and one place above rockbottom Fulham – the only team they have managed to beat this season.

Compared to the same point last term, Town have scored two fewer goals, have three fewer wins and are eight points worse off this campaign.

The displays have been solid from Yorkshire’s only top-flight football club but points, not performances, will dictate who gets the prize of Premier League football once again at the end of the season.

But, despite the inevitable doom and gloom being in the relegation zone brings, the Terriers’ upcoming fixtures should provide some optimism for the Town faithful.

In nine of Town’s next 10 fixtures, David Wagner’s side face teams they have taken points off in their last two head-to-head league fixtures.

Sunday’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers, for example, should be one which Town go into with confidence, having won 12 of their past 16 meetings with the Black Country side.

Although Wolves are a different proposition since their takeover and summer investment, the Terriers can still consider themselves a bogey side for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.

And Town’s recent record against Brighton & Hove Albion, their opposition after Wolves, is nearly as good.

The Terriers fought for one vital victory and a draw with the Seagulls last year, with those four points coming at crucial times for Town.

The West Yorkshire side claimed their win over Brighton after a fourmatch losing run, with the three points taking them from 16th to 11th in the top-flight table in December last year. And with history on their side, Wagner’s men should be thinking positively about once again taking points off Chris Hughton’s side at a crucial point in the current campaign. In fact, the only team Town take on in their next 10 outings which they haven’t taken points off over the course of the previous two seasons is Arsenal on December 8. That isn’t to say that the Terriers will take points from all the other teams again, or that they will definitely not take any from the Gunners, but more that the past results will help Town believe that they can once again earn positive results against the same sides. The same can be said for Town’s trips to AFC Bournemouth (December 4) and Southampton (December 22), as well as the visit of Newcastle United to the John Smith’s Stadium on December 15. Town can take heart in their 4-1 home victory over the Cherries last term, the pair of points earned against the Saints in the same

Town should be looking into the future knowing they can take points off their opponents
