School helps African village and hands out new Town kit

The students, from Silcoates School in Wakefield, helped to build a large fenced market garden so that the students of Gendi Primary School could learn to farm and sell crops to keep the school running. They also renovated three classrooms and paved the floors in three others.

The hard work didn’t stop there, they also built a kitchen outside with a food store to keep food fresher for longer.

Silcoates started their campaign long before they arrived in Tanzania, spending months fundraisin­g for the school so they could install their own fresh water source.

The locals now have easy access to Students from Silcoates School, Wakefield, delivered a donation of Huddersfie­ld Town merchandis­e whilst on a two-week trip in Tanzania helping to renovate a primary school. All of their hard work and determinat­ion paid off seeing the happy faces from the school children and the local community – but then there was a big surprise.

Umbro donated 80 pairs of shirts, shorts and socks along with an abundance of footballs, pumps and kit bags and the whole school turned blue and white.

Luke Cowan, Huddersfie­ld Town’s retail manager, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to Umbro for supporting such a great cause. It was great that the students were able to take the donations of kits and merchandis­e to Tanzania with them.”
