MOUNIE: ‘I have quality, the goals will come’

-

TOWN may have an impressive record at Wolves but David Wagner admits only their best will be good enough to reap points tomorrow.

Town have lost just once at Molineux in nine visits over the last 30 years but the German head coach is mindful of how big a test this 2018-19 assignment will be.

Wolves are 11th in the standings ahead of today’s programme, while Town will be bottom going into tomorrow’s 4pm kick-off if Fulham beat Southampton at Craven Cottage.

After the Wolves match, Town entertain Brighton before away trips to Bournemouth and Arsenal, with Newcastle and Southampton at the John Smith’s Stadium in the lead-up to Christmas.

Asked if Town had looked at the fixture list and targeted the run of games as a potential bonus spell for points, Wagner had a straightforward answer.

“No, I have never spoken about getting a number of points from the next number of games,” said the boss, who is without injured defender Chris Lowe and suspended centreback Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

“Likewise we never say the next number of games are difficult so we won’t take anything. We go to every team and try our best to collect points.”

Wagner added: “We haven’t played one of the top six in the last three games, this is true, and we won’t in the next three games, but the only thing we are focused on is performing well in the next game.” STEVE Mounie says he’s confident he’ll soon break his Town goal duck for the season.

The 24-year-old striker has been buoyed for the Premier League trip to Wolves by scoring for his international side, Benin, in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Mounie hasn’t notched for Town since the 1-1 draw at Brighton last BBC Sport pundit Mark Lawrenson has once again predicted defeat for Huddersfield Town this weekend.

The Terriers take on newlypromoted Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux tomorrow, with the clash live by Sky Sports.

Town will be aiming for a second victory of the season in the Black Country, with David Wagner’s men looking to extend their unbeaten run to three matches.

The hosts, on the other hand, will be aiming to build on their 1-1 draw with Arsenal ahead of the international break, despite losing WOLVES have everything in their locker to enjoy a fruitful Premier League season.

That’s the view of Town boss David Wagner as he takes his side to Molineux for tomorrow’s clash.

Wagner has been impressed by Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, who have climbed to mid-table on the back of April and he admits he wants to put that right as quickly as possible.

“I am desperate,” said the former Montpellier frontman. “I’m a striker. “There are some times in the season where you don’t score and, unfortunately, this time has come at the beginning of the season.

“If you score at the start of the season and have some goals, if this spell then comes in the middle of the season people don’t talk about it their previous three matches.

And Lawrenson believes Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will do just that with a 2-0 win over the Terriers.

In his weekly predictions column for the BBC, the former Republic of Ireland international wrote: “I was very impressed by Wolves in their draw at Arsenal – they did enough to win that game.

“They should have too much for a Huddersfield side that have mustered two points and four goals from their five away games this season.”

Although Lawrenson may not wins against the likes of West Ham, Burnley, Southampton and Crystal Palace, alongside draws from games with Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal.

They have a lightning counterattacking threat from players such as Raul Jimenez and Helder Costa, and even more pace in reserve from the flying Adama Traore.

Anchoring the defensive effort is former Town player Conor Coady, so much. For me, I am just trying to have chances, because if you don’t have chances then you can’t score goals.

“I will keep trying to get chances and, if I do that, I am sure the goals will come.”

Mounie says he is working hard and is determined to do his job for the team, which is putting the ball in the net.

“I said after the West Ham game that the goals would be coming and believe Town will taste victory at Molineux this weekend, his guests this week do.

The former Brighton and Liverpool defender was joined by Mumford & Sons’ Marcus Mumford and Winston Marshall for this week’s predictions, with the pair plumping for a win for Wagner’s side.

The musicians, who support AFC Wimbledon and Manchester United respectively, opted for a 1-0 victory for the Yorkshire side, a result which would hand the Terriers a first away win since February and could lift them to 15th. who has even been mentioned as a possible England candidate in the not too distant future.

So who does Wagner believe poses the biggest threat to Town?

“Their main threat, in general, is that everybody knows what he has to do, because they have now consistently played the same formation and with more or less the same players as well,” he pointed out. “This is their biggest threat in now I have scored for my international team,” he explained.

“I am sure I have the capacity and quality to score goals, so they will come.”

So does he think about the fact he hasn’t scored so far this season for Town?

“I am a striker and if you are a striker who is not scoring goals then you think about that,” he answered.

“It is my job to score goals. I haven’t done so far but I know I will. I know how to score, and I will.”

Meanwhile, Town boss David Wagner believes Wolves have made some excellent signings following their Championship title win last term.

“It is obvious they are not a normal promotion team, they are on a different level to the teams that got promoted in the past,” he explained.

“They have invested money, this is the truth, but they have done it smart.

“They play very well, they have a good idea and are very consistent in the personnel as well.

“They got promoted by a lot of points and they have been able to transform their form and quality into the Premier League.

“So, they have done well so far this season.” the offence and the defence as well – they know exactly what they have to do.

“And, obviously, they have a lot of experience and quality, and they also have some players who are very hungry as well because this is their first time in the Premier League for them.

“So they have everything to play a good part in the Premier League and this is what they have done so far.”
