by armed officers after shots were fired.

Another man said he knew someone who was in the building at the time, and that the shooting involved an ongoing feud at the car bodywork business currently based on site.

He said: “It’s between two people and basically one person just turned up and opened fire.” The man refused to disclose any more details.

At its height, the incident appeared to be a stand-off, with several armed officers surrounding the building.

Further back on the main road were a convoy of police vehicles, a sniffer dog and paramedics in stab vests.

The cordon was brought down shortly before 3pm, although the building itself remained taped off as detectives carried out their investigation.

Ebrahim Rajabi, 35, who runs the Cyrus Polish shop opposite, said he was forced to close his business throughout the incident.

He said: “I opened as normal at 9am, then police came in saying I had to shut my shop. I have lost four hours worth of business.”

A man and woman remained in police custody yesterday evening.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “At 10.45am on Sunday police received a report of gunshots having been fired from commercial premises in Lockwood Road, Huddersfield.

“Armed officers were deployed to the scene and a man and woman were arrested from the premises and are in custody.

“No-one was injured and physical evidence of a firearm being discharged is yet to be confirmed.

“Firearms officers contained the scene while the premises were searched but cleared the property and stood down shortly before 3pm.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and local officers are conducting patrols of the area and linking with community representatives to provide necessary reassurance.”

Anyone with information or who witnessed anything which may help the investigation is asked to contact Kirklees CID via 101, quoting the log number 664 of November 25.
