Council wants our views, but will anyone listen to us?

-

So we spent £20+m on a Premier League ace and still get relegated... what next? Not gonna lie, never expected Huddersfield to be in the top 20 clubs in the country to start with. But it would seem investing in the club’s infrastructure would best position them for a long term Premier League prospect than doing what West Brom did last season banking it all on a “guaranteed striker.” Tina Turner, rock singer John McVie, rock musician Des Walker, former footballer, Garcelle Beauvais, actress,

Tammy Lynn Michaels, actress, Natasha Bedingfield, singer, Trevor Morgan, actor, Rita Ora singer, SO Kirklees is carrying out a survey on the subject of congestion on the A62 Leeds Road – WOW!

I must confess that like so many others I had no idea.

Fortunately being retired I no longer have to suffer from the badly thought out initiatives to which we have been treated to over the years.

No longer do I spend hours queueing at Cooper Bridge.

I remember that junction before they installed the traffic lights; we were assured they would solve the problems.

I very much doubt that anything we say will have any effect on the thinking of Kirklees and the Planners.

They will simply adopt the policy they have already decided and the so-called survey is just another attempt to fool the public into thinking their views count.

Years ago research (from genuine surveys) identified that congestion was created in most places because of the so-called traffic calming measures that we now suffer from.

The policy of reducing the main roads to a single carriageway in both directions is the problem.

Road furniture and cycle pathways don’t help – do we actually need separate cycle lanes (of which I am a great supporter) on both sides of the road for instance?

Is paint so expensive that we need concrete islands to delineate the two sides of the road?

Bus lanes are very much under utilised but are enjoyed by taxis whilst we sit fuming (sic) in traffic.

Drivers do give way to buses at other times so why not trust them to do so at rush hour?

Of course, getting rid of bus lanes creates yet another problem; the council would need to find another source of money to waste, and Kirklees need to have lessons or surveys on how to do that.

Huddersfield is a town on a through route – the council might think all roads lead to Huddersfield but they fail to understand those same roads also lead away.

We might live here but our work is elsewhere and the current problems seem designed to discourage anyone to stop.
