ing another smart corner routine involving a Jonathan Hogg cross. On the stroke of half time, Mounie underlined Town’s confidence with a cracking 30-yard drive which tested Patricio’s handling under his bar, and then he brought a stunning reaction block from Matt Doherty near the line with a powerful header from another Mooy corner.

Half time, in fact, came at a bad time for Town and Wolves made a double change, introducing the pace and skill of Adama Traore and Morgan Gibbs-White for Joao Moutinho and Cavaleiro. And Traore almost made his presence felt on 56 minutes as Wolves went within millimetres of an equaliser, the wingman crossing for a Raul Jimenez header which was hooked off the line by the excellent Billing. Town’s towering Dane fired in a shot which was narrowly wide in the next attack, but Wolves were finding more of a foothold. The home side were almost undone for a second goal, however, 20 minutes from time as Mooy and Billing linked excellently to tee up Pritchard

for a low drive which was well blocked by the keeper with his legs.

Wagner’s side did not have long to wait, however, for the second goal they deserved, following a foul on Mounie just outside the box.

It seemed to favour the left boot of Billing, but Mooy stepped up to curl a superb effort past the wall, beating the keeper in his left corner despite getting a pretty firm hand to the shot.

Mounie fired over after a Mooy shot had been blocked and, as Wolves looked for a way back, Lossl saved a crisp Diogo Jota drive.

It was too little too late for the home side, and my how Town and their travelling fans celebrated at the final whistle while Wolves were booed off by their angry supporters. DAVID Wagner described goalscorer Aaron Mooy as “outstanding” in the victory at Wolves.

The Australian midfielder’s double sealed the 2-0 win which lifted Town out of the relegation zone and into 14th in the Premier League table.

And his display came just four days after he returned from international duty with the Socceroos on the other side of the world.

Mooy netted after five minutes from an Erik Durm invitation and then, on 73, with a fantastic free kick. Wagner said of Mooy: “He was outstanding today, like the whole team. “He played on a very, very high level. “Not only did he score the two goals but he looked so calm on the ball, in ball possession, and how he works for the team defensively is outstanding. “Then, if you realise he played only on Tuesday in Australia, this is unbelievable what he has shown here today.”
