Delight of Down Under star at joining Giants

-

NEW signing Matt Frawley has expressed his delight at joining Huddersfield – having finally arrived from Australia last week.

Speaking at the Huddersfield Giant kit-launch, Frawley said: “I’m really glad I’m here. They’ve [The Giants squad] have all been very welcoming and so have all the other coaches so yeah, so far so good.”

“They’re building to do something special and I want to be a part of it.”

Frawley joins Giants and has the ominous task of replacing Danny Brough in the side, however, the Aussie is not worrying about this and is focussed solely on adapting and improving his game to help his new team.

“There was a couple of options to stay back home but I wanted to test myself and try take my game to the next level – and I think I can do that over here.”

“Every week is going to be new and different for me. I obviously haven’t played in Super League and just getting used to the style of play and the new stadiums and atmospheres will be good.”

Frawley joined Huddersfield for pre-season training last week and has hit the ground running with his new team, however, he admits it has been a bit difficult adapting to the infamous Yorkshire winter.

“Yeah, been here for a week now, flew in last Tuesday. Yeah, it’s been a bit of a shock with the weather but no, I’m really enjoying it.”

Any player who leaves the NRL in order to come and play in the Super League is taking a huge risk in their career, especially for someone who has yet to fully establish themselves in the game like Frawley.

However, this decision was made a whole lot easier for Frawley because of one man– Simon Woolford.

He said: “I think there was a few things but I think Simon Woolford is probably a big reason why I’m here.”

“I know what sort of bloke he is and what sort of coach he is.

“He’s someone I want to learn under here and it’s not only Simon but it’s all the boys you know.”

“Even though I don’t know them, I’ve got to know them over the last week and they’ve been really welcoming.

“He [Simon Woolford] came over here half way through the year and had a lot of success and I know the boys had a good back end of the year.” Looking forward to 2019, Frawley is keen to get the season started but has highlighted one weekend he is eagerly anticipating.

“The Magic Weekend will be exciting, it’s at Anfield so it is going to be pretty cool to be playing there.”

“But yeah, it’s just playing in general is what I am looking forward to most.”
