SPORT D-DAY OVER RED CARD

-

TOWN have a deadline to meet should they wish to appeal Steve Mounie’s red card against Brighton.

There has been no word from the club so far as to whether they will tackle disciplinary chiefs at the Football Association about the decision by referee Michael Oliver.

But if they do appeal, they will have to state their case by 1pm today.

At the moment, Mounie is facing a three-match ban for his dismissal in Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat by Brighton.

That will rule him out against Bournemouth, Arsenal and Newcastle United – which is Town’s next home game.

Head coach David Wagner, of course, was visibly upset by the red card for his Benin striker, which came in the 32nd-minute and with Town leading 1-0.

After the game, Wagner was furious and said: “It was clear and obvious for everybody what went wrong today – the referee decides how he did today and, from my point of view, all the big decisions went against us.

“From my point of view, it wasn’t a red card for Steve Mounie. If he judges that a red card then I think the challenge on Erik Durm was at least a red card as well.

“And a red card and penalty on Pritchard was clear and obvious as well, so we don’t have to discuss anything about this football match, only the referee’s decisions. I am not saying he has done it on purpose, but all the decisions were wrong.”
