Residents facing delays across town due to work

-

Gas works at the junction of Bryan Road and Halifax Road, Edgerton. Right, an earlier phase of the work at Folly Hall scheduled to finish until February 8, 2019.

And residents in the Birkby area are also experiencing delays to their journeys as the company continues with work on the key route along St John’s Road, near Magic Rock Tap, which takes traffic to the town centre. That work is due to finish on Monday, December 17.

But at least they will be able to have some relief from the weeks of work that have slowed traffic on nearby Wheathouse Road which is due to finish on Saturday.

Margaret Hardy, of Edgerton, said: “Some of the work is due to happen directly outside my house so I hope it all goes to plan. We’ve not been affected too badly so far but driving around Birkby and particularly Wheathouse Road and St John’s Road we have experienced a lot of disruption.”

Elsewhere, there is a lane closure and traffic lights on the A616 at Folly Hall and motorists face disruption on the B6432 at Colne Road, Huddersfield, until Friday, December 14, with Northern Gas saying there is a road closure and traffic lights in use.

Northern Gas are also laying a new gas man on Lamb Hall Road, Longwood, which will entail the road’s closure until January, 27 2019.

But it’s not just gas network providers who cause disruption. Norther Powergrid is continuing work at Somerset Road, Almondbury, with traffic controls and multi-way signals in operation until Friday, December 14.

A spokesman said: We have been asked to provide a new electricity connection by a customer in this area. To do this we install new cables and substations and then connect them to the electricity network.

“We are required to provide these services within set timescales and always aim to keep any inconvenience to a minimum.”

Yorkshire Water’s essential repair work at Rook Street, not far from Huddersfield town centre, was due to finish today (Fri).

Chris Nevison, business operations lead for NGN, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during these works, and thank our customers for their patience and support in getting them completed as quickly as possible.”
