Harriers dominated the race, which was run over a very slippery and challenging 5.3km. Ruby Sykes continued her excellent form and finished an impressive third (19mins 53secs). The Byram sisters, Erica and Lucy, in their first cross country race of the season, worked well together finishing fifth and first Under-20 (20:13) and seventh and second Under-20 (20:33) respectively.

Helen Berry, racing back to fitness after a short break, worked through the field to finish between her team-mates in sixth and first V40 (20:25).

The trio gave great support to Sykes to clinch the team win by a huge margin of 21 points to York Knavesmire’s 65.

The overall Holmfirth team placing remained unchanged, though, at second behind the North Yorkshire club. Cara Inch ran consistently well, coming home in 13th and third Under-20 (21:32), with Claire Leaver-Hewitt not far behind in 17th (21:57) and youngster Juliette Branford in 27th (22:29).

Lesley Ewart was the final Holmfirth woman home in an impressive 49th and first V60 (24:58).

The overall league results saw medal positions for Claire LeaverHewitt (second V35), Helen Berry (first V40), Kath Farquhar (third V45) and Lesley Ewart (first V60). Ruby Sykes missed out on a bronze in the open category competition by just one point.

Declan Levay finished second for the under-11 boys and was backed up by Samuel Allot in 42nd, Luke Hirst in 49th and Alexander Gilligan in 50th. It was enough to see Declan claim second in the overall series.

Imogen Wolff won the girls under-13s race, running away from her rivals on the last lap to finish well clear of her rivals, and also securing the series crown.

Her team-mates were Alice Feetham, who was 21st, and Elizabeth Gilligan in 47th.

Elena Inch led the Harriers home in the girls under-15s in eighth place followed by Mollie Scaramuzza in 28th. The under-17 women continued their good form with Zara Tyas in fourth, Olivia Dyson seventh, Sophie Kettlewell 14th and Lydia Throssell 18th, finishing second in the team event on the day and clinch victory in the whole series. Tyas’ result also saw her finish third in the series.

Holmfirth’s senior men started the race seriously under strength and despite some good performances, it wasn’t enough to earn a team place on the day or in the series. Kai Sunman was first home for the Harriers having a solid run in 25th (28.23). Tim Street closely followed in 29th (28.48), Lavell Pierre ran well for 52nd (30.51) while Chris Beadle came 63rd (31.19). Battling it out for the last two team counters were Jonny Sykes and Chris Taylor, with Sykes just edging it in 70th and first M55 (31.57) and Taylor in 71st (32.01).

That saw Holmfirth gain sixth team on the day and fourth in the series.
