THE VERDICT: TOWN 0 NEWCASTLE 1 Lowe point: Town need results now not excuses

LEFT-BACK SAYS TERRIERS CAN’T USE MOOY’S ABSENCE AS A REASON FOR FAILURES IN ATTACK AND DEFENCE

CHRIS Lowe insists the Huddersfield Town players aren’t feeling sorry for themselves despite a fourth straight defeat.

The left-back was part of the Town team beaten 1-0 by Newcastle at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

On the defeat, Lowe said: “We lost the game and that is what matters in the end.

“We can’t just keep saying we played well.

“We didn’t get a result and it was another game for the bin again basically.

“We dominated them in the first half. I think they had like five touches in our half in the first half, other than one shot on target, nothing.

“They came here to try to keep a clean sheet as long as possible.

“Then in the second half we switched off for let’s say 10 seconds and concede a goal which changes the game again, so that is basically the story about the game.

“As everyone knows Newcastle is difficult to break down even at 0-0 and is more difficult to break down at 1-0 and that is what we have seen.”

Although the Terriers slipped to another defeat, the 29-yearold says the players are not feeling sorry for themselves.

He added: “Of course you have to see our performances and get it right, keep believing, but now is the time where we have to pick up points.

“It doesn’t matter how we play and that is what we have to try in the next weeks now to be better at both ends of the pitch, and get some points on the board.

“We are not feeling sorry for ourselves, we know what we did wrong and what we need to do better.

“The only thing we can do is Lossl, Jorgensen, Schindler, Kongolo (Sobhi, 60), Hadergjonaj, Bacuna, Hogg (Mbenza, 77), Billing, Lowe (Durm, 60), Pritchard, Depoitre. Not used: Hamer, Kachunga, Quaner, Stankovic try to work on all these things to make it better in the next weeks and try to turn it around and get some results.”

Lowe insisted that although the team is without influential Australian central midfielder Aaron Mooy, they should still be scoring goals.

“The fact Mooy is injured shouldn’t be an excuse,” he said.

“Of course we can get goals without Aaron in our team. Aaron was injured for a few weeks last year as well. In the end he is a central midfielder Dubravka, Schar, Lascelles, Clark, Manquillo, Diame, Ki (Hayden, 72), Atsu, Kenedy (Dummett, 89), Perez, Rondon (Ritchie, 81). Not used: Murphy, Muto, Joselu, Woodman. and usually you need goals from your offensive players. Aaron is not a proper offensive player, so that means it shouldn’t be an excuse in why we are unable to score or unable to win games.

“We know we are in a bad position and we know wins can help us move out of the bottom three.”
