OFFICIALS at the University of Huddersfield have congratulated former student Sian Gabbidon on becoming Lord Sugar’s latest business partner.

Sian, 26, beat rival entrepreneur Camilla Ainsworth in Sunday’s final of The Apprentice 2018 to win a £250,000 investment in her designer swimwear business.

Leeds-based Sian graduated in Fashion Design with Marketing and Production from Huddersfield in 2014 and has since created her own brand sianmarie.com.

The university sent its congratulations to Sian as did the university’s communications chief and former Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney, who tweeted: “Huge congrats to former University of Huddersfield student Sian @HuddersfieldUni @ HudAlumni #Yorkshire.”

Sian, of Alwoodley, told how she had always been into fashion and would be “cutting up jeans” at college to make all kinds of clothing and also made dresses in a sewing machine in her bedroom.

She set up her brand in 2005 and said everything she knows about business she has taught herself.

Sian survived 10 weeks of challenges to come out on top in The Apprentice to hear the one-off “you’re hired” from Lord Sugar.

Sian wants to be a role model for other young women and said she was “over the moon” to land the lifechanging investment.

Looking forward to her partnership with Lord Sugar she said: “I love what I do, I love fashion and to put us together is going to be ridiculous.”
