Honours even between the Mens League’s two top teams

VALLEY St James mens’ match against Kirkburton in the Huddersfie­ld Badminton League was a close call between the teams currently first and second in the Mens League.

The first match between Steve Brickleban­k and Joe Fisher of Valley and Andrew Denbigh-White and Mark Earnshaw was an indication of how close some of the games would be with the first rubber won by Valley 21-16 the second rubber went right to the wire with Valley eventually taking the game 29-27.

The second match between Lee Whitworth and Mohammed Awais Aslam of Valley St James and Majid Ali and John Mellor of Kirkburton was also very close with Valley winning the match in two ends both 22-20.

Steve Brickleban­k and Mohammed Awais Aslam then played Andrew Denbigh-White and John Mellor.

But although Valley won the first end the game was eventually won in three by Kirkburton.

Majid Ali and Mark Earnshaw then made easier work of the game between Brickleban­k and Aslam taking the match 10-21 and 17-21.

Valley then won the match as Aslam and Fisher beat Mellor and Earnshaw to put them 3-2 ahead in games won.

Denbigh-White and Ali of Kirkburton took the first end in the final game against Brickleban­k and Whitworth, who battled back to take the second game 25-23, but Kirkburton won the deciding rubber 21-14 to win the final game, which saw honours even in the final result of 3-3.
