We’re here if your pet’s ill over Christmas
WITH Christmas just round the corner, most people are looking forward to having a couple of weeks holiday. For the hard working team at Donaldson’s, we will all be juggling time at home with our families with the commitment of maintaining our 24-hour emergency service right through the Christmas period.
Right up to late afternoon on Christmas Eve, all the Donaldson’s clinics will be open as usual before our emergency service kicks in through Christmas Day and Boxing Day. We do not see routine appointments on those days but should you need us we have two vets and two nurses on duty right through the Christmas period.
During the holiday period, the emergency service runs from our Maple Street Hospital in the geographical centre of the practice. Facilities are centralised at Maple Street at nights and over the Christmas shutdown to ensure 24 hour service is available for the patients of all the Donaldson’s clinics.
The Maple Street Hospital always has several inpatients so the surgery is never empty. Our nurses and vets are on hand to care for the inpatients as well as deal with whatever emergency cases come in.
Being a practice who also deal with farm animals and horses, we always need to have two vets on duty so that one vet can be attending pets at the surgery while the other is out in the field.
After Boxing Day, the 27th December sees all our surgeries open as normal once more.
At New Year, it is only Tuesday, January 1, where we are on emergency service. Other than 1st January, it is normal opening right through.
The demand on our services over Christmas can be very unpredictable. The last Christmas I worked was really busy with lots of emergency cases coming in from all over the region throughout the day and night but the previous Christmas was relatively quiet.
