The biggest concert in Huddersfield for more than a decade is taking place at the John Smith’s Stadium next year.

In September Take That announced the venue would be one of last the stops on their 2019 Greatest Hits tour.

There are still a few tickets left for the much-anticipated gig on Tuesday, June 4, but fans might spot the boys around town afterwards as Gary told the Examiner they often have a party after a show and usually like to keep it local.

Always a highlight of the calendar is the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival, which will be back in St George’s Square over the first weekend in August.

More than 100 stalls selling food, drink and crafty creations will crowd in around the Harold Wilson statue. A large stage with a line-up of live local musicians will play throughout the four days.

But its not the only food festival in town. Foodies can look forward to Chow Down in Halifax’s Piece Hall, Holmfirth Food Festival, Honley Feast and a number of others. more strongly Doctor Who themed than usual though.

“I think is very popular at the moment,” said organiser, Martin Ballard. “We are talking to three or four Doctors, including Colin Baker, Peter Davison and Sylvester McCoy but I don’t want to say which one yet just in case it changes. It would be amazing to get Jodie to come but I think she is a little busy at the moment. “We are going to have an exclusively built Tardis there and you will be able to explore the interior of it. People can play with it but hopefully not drive it.”

Huddersfield Comic-Con will be on Saturday May 25 and tickets are available now. The celebration of all things vegan is back at Huddersfield Town Hall for a second year.

From 10.30am to 5pm on Saturday February 2, vegans and non-vegans are invited to browse stalls selling everything from cruelty-free beauty products and vegan clothing to wellness aids and hot and cold food.

Tickets are on sale now from www. westyorkshireveganfestival.com.

There are several music festivals returning to the area in 2019.

Of particular note are two events making a second appearance after super-successful debuts this year.

HuddsFest, which held its first ever event at Storthes Hall this summer, is going to even bigger in 2019 as it moves to Greenhead Park and adds a second day to the festivities.

Meanwhile, Love4Music is back at The Pavillion in Fartown to celebrate the best of reggae, soul, 90s R’n’B and UK old school garage.

A new stage has been added for 2019 with DJ Spoony and Soul II Soul confirmed headliners and more acts to be announced in the new year.

Of course, all the old classics, such as Marsden Jazz Festival and Marsh Fest will be taking place again.
