A POLICE investigation has been launched after reports that shots were fired towards a house in Deighton.

Scott Vale – a cul-de-sac off Riddings Road on the border of Sheepridge – has been sealed off since Saturday night.

West Yorkshire Police is yet to give official confirmation about what has occurred.

Local reports claim six loud shots were heard at about 10pm on Saturday.

Sources have said a weapon was fired towards a house on Scott Vale.

It has not been confirmed if anyone was injured or anyone has been arrested.

At 10am Crime Scene Investigation officers arrived to begin a probe.

They examined potential skid marks outside a property and then began to take photos of the front of the house.

Meanwhile a six-strong team did a fingertip search of a 50m (150ft) stretch of road, pavement and gardens outside the semi-detached home.

They laid down a number of yellow markers where they found potential evidence.

Detectives from Kirklees CID could be seen doing house to house enquiries.

As of 2pm the scene was still in place.

Locals contacting the Examiner, none of whom wanted to be named, said the area was becoming “lawless” and they claimed police viewed it as a “no-go area”.

One said there were huge problems with drugs and gangs.

West Yorkshire Police were approached for comment but had not responded as the Examiner went to press. ARMED police swooped on an address in Birkby.

A police scene was put in place after a team of armed officers descended at about 4pm yesterday.

The whole north side of Norman Road was sealed off to the public, all the way to the junction with Norwood Road alongside Norman Park.

Police remained tight-lipped about what was happening as the Examiner went to press.

By around 6pm armed police appeared to have left the scene, but detectives and uniformed officers were continuing an operation. A 100m long cordon was in place from the junction with Birkby Hall Road.

An alleyway between Norman Road and Armitage Road was also taped off and guarded by police.

A resident said: “Everyone is saying different things. Some say there’s been a shooting, some say there’s been a raid. They’ve all got their own opinions.”
