Woman caught on camera yelling and abusing taxi driver

A WOMAN hurled an aggressive and appalling tirade of abuse at a Huddersfield taxi driver after she told him to close his window and didn’t get her way.

The woman, who allegedly told the driver she worked for Kirklees Council, can be seen in video footage screaming various expletives, accusing him of racism and sexism, and even telling him to ‘die’ as she and two other women are thrown out of the cab on Lockwood Scar on Boxing Day evening.

The driver claimed the argument started when one of the women told him to close the van window and he refused. It’s alleged she then refused to pay, to which he stopped the vehicle and said he wouldn’t be taking the group any further without payment.

Shocking footage captured on the driver’s phone shows the livid customer banging on the taxi windows as her companions try to pull her back, and even at one point opening the driver’s side door and appearing to try and assault the driver.

At one point, a man who was not travelling in the taxi appears to get involved, telling the women to “get out of the way” and saying to the driver, “just drive off mate”.

The driver, Mian Sabir, works for a Huddersfield firm.

He said: “I picked them up from the Plumbers Arms. One of the women asked me to shut the hole where the air was coming from. They were laughing so I didn’t think anything of it.

“The lady doing all the shouting and screaming went home and then her mum started saying she wasn’t going to pay me if I didn’t close the window. I said if she wasn’t going to pay me she should leave the vehicle.”

He said the woman said she would go - but the first woman, thought to be her daughter, came back.

He said: “They started screaming and hitting the vehicle. When she started I started recording it.”

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called to a report of an assault on a taxi driver on Lockwood Scar between 10pm and 10.50pm on 26 December.

“The suspects, who were customers in the vehicle, are reported to have become abusive towards the driver. They then got out of the car and attempted to cause damage to his vehicle.

“Enquiries remain ongoing into the incident.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting crime reference 13180646212.
