Driver is rescued after M62 tree crash

The accident, involving an Audi Q7 4x4, took place off an exit slip road of the M62 at junction 23 (Outlane) at around 5.15am on Saturday.

The crash was attended by police, fire crews from Huddersfie­ld and Rastrick stations and paramedics.

The driver, believed to be in his thirties, is not thought to have been seriously injured but was taken to hospital.

One lane of the slip road was closed while the operation to free the driver from his vehicle took place. Traffic officer Dave Cant was one of the officers at the scene.

He said: “One car left the exit slip at junction 23 Outlane.

“Gone off carriagewa­y and about 25 feet up the embankment into trees.

“There was one male occupant, the driver in the car.

“Driver has been taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be serious. Highways England Officers are waiting for recovery of the car.”

Crew commander Craig Gant, of Rastrick Fire Station, said: “We stabilised the vehicle so it didn’t roll down the hill.

“We assisted him (the driver) out of the car and helped with paramedics.”
