Ofsted should look at parents’ performance

-

Oh no not another. It only got saved and put back in Kingsgate not so long back too. Shame if it did but hopefully not before end of today as I’m headed there now. IN your recent report on school ratings (Dave Himelfield, December 5), most of the percentages shown refer to schools rated as good and outstanding.

For instance, 83% of primaries in Kirklees were rated good or outstanding by Ofsted, 4% lower than the average for England.

This incredibly scant summary by Ofsted omits the role of parents and other family members, perhaps as important as professional staff in directing children’s futures.

Don’t Ofsted managers prompt (via serious guidance) parents to do better - or even a lot better?

If they do not, should someone nudge Ofsted on the need for improved thinking on qualitative learning outside the classroom?

There most certainly will be riots in the hot summer of 2019 if there isn’t a referendum.

Remainers do, indeed, think the Brexiters were ‘ignorant’ in voting to leave because they simply haven’t a clue about what they have unleashed.

At its heart, as we know from the research, was the question of immigration.

The core of this is the Brexiters’ antagonism to the idea of ‘difference’; a notion which Remainers, the young and cities embrace. The result is a deepening cultural war which will last a generation.

This is far bigger than postSuez and the generational divide of the sixties.

There will be no coming together, there is no ‘British people’ as Mr Tidbal claims.

The Brexiters have let out of the box forces – racialism, nationalism and populism - that they will not be able to control and they can’t put back in.

2019 is not a year to look forward to.
