New signing focuses on the positives after debut in cup defeat

- By RORY BENSON

NEW Town signing Jason Puncheon was staying positive despite the FA Cup exit at the hands of Bristol City.

The 32-year-old signed for the Terriers on loan from Crystal Palace on Friday and was thrown into the squad 24 hours later as Town travelled to Ashton Gate.

And Puncheon was pleased to get some game time with his new colleagues.

“I thought it was good, on a personal note, to learn a lot about my teammates,” he said.

“Obviously this all happened so quickly. Only training on the Friday and getting the clearance, so that was a bit difficult, but again it was 90 minutes for myself and, more importantly, the second half shaded the first half.

“It was two different games for us, really.

“For me, from my experience and from what I’ve seen, if we do what we did in the second half I think we’ll be alright.”

The new arrival is now determined secure a regular place in the side and impress the Town fans.

”I’ve come here to do a job personally, but more important is getting me integrated with the boys and the team,” Puncheon explained

“It was important for me to get some minutes today [Saturday]. It’s only the fourth competitive game I’ve played for 16 months so to get up to speed, especially with the way the gaffer wants to play with the intensity, I thought that was needed today.

“The most important thing is I don’t want people to sit there and think ‘oh yeah, he’s come from Crystal Palace in the Premier League and that he’s entitled to any place’.

“I think every place is given and earned and it’s up to me to work my socks off and stay in that team.”
